On Monday, October 5, the first film night of this semester, organized by Studentská sekce IIPS, took place. This time, we screened Dunkirk by Christopher Nolan, followed by a themed discussion on the background of this famous event with historian Vladimír Černý.
The multiple award-winning historical drama Dunkirk is undoubtedly one of the best-known films by the American-British director Christopher Nolan. The film is set around the 1940 evacuation of encircled French, British and Belgian soldiers from the beaches of the French town of Dunkirk. It boasts not only a superb atmosphere but also a star-studded cast including Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and Harry Styles.
The screening took place at ARTBAR, which has already become a classic venue for our film nights. Its iconic brick walls were transformed into the backdrop of a period drama for the evening, so there was no shortage of gripping atmosphere.
The discussion that followed with PhDr. Vladimír Černý, PhD. offered an even more detailed insight into the historical context of this significant event. There was also room for questions from the audience, who wanted to learn more about the Second World War than what they had picked up in history lessons.
We would like to thank Mr. Černý for his time and ARTBAR for providing the space. We also thank everyone who came for their interest in this event, and we look forward to the next film screening.
